Before becoming a therapist, I practiced law and taught English, and hold a Juris Doctor (JD), and Master of Arts (MA) in English.  As a psychotherapist, my training is in existential-phenomenological and psychodynamic modalities.  In the field of psychology, I hold a Master of Arts (MA) degree from the University of West Georgia in Humanistic Psychology, and am pursuing a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree at the same institution.  As part of a broad training in counseling and psychotherapy, I have worked in community mental health, hospice, in-patient and out-patient psychiatric, and hospital settings.  Recently, I completed a two-year training program at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.  I write on the subjects of existential-phenomenological psychology, psychoanalysis, and philosophy, and have presented papers at national conferences, such as APA (American Psychological Association) and APCS (Association for Psychoanalysis of Culture and Society).  My current research concerns the relation between consciousness and society - more specifically, the intersection of history, culture, and forms of psychological suffering.  I am a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and Alabama Counseling Association (ALCA).
